Employees receive a sick day for every full month they work. In compliance with FL State Statute we advance days during the first month of employment. If the employee does not complete their contract, sick leave will be taken back to equal the number of full months worked and if you have used those days, the money will be taken back on final check. Sick days are to be used for illness, doctor appts., or funerals. Any other reason is to be turned in as personal. Employees are only allowed 6 days per year for personal reasons per state statute, if you exceed that amount you will be docked.
If you have a sick balance at the end of the school year, you do NOT lose those hours, as they roll forward to the next year.
When employees separate service, they are paid a percentage of their sick leave balance if they have completed 3 full years. The percentage is based on their years of service with SBHC, the minimum being 35% and the maximum is 75% for over 12 years.
