At Memorial Elementary, we will meet or exceed the B.E.S.T. Standards (also referred to as Benchmarks) to provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The benchmarks are designed to be robust and relevant to the real world, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our young people need for success in college and careers.

During the school year, student progress is monitored to ensure success. Some of the assessments that you may talk to your child's teacher about are

FAST (ELA & Math), FCAT (Science)

MCLASS

Weekly/Chapter/Unit tests

On staff, we have a reading curriculum coach, Mrs. Franza, a math/science coach, Mrs. Kramer & a technology resource teacher, Mrs. Belanger. Most of their days are spent modeling, supporting instruction and planning with teachers.

District "On Grade-Level" Indicators

Grade level indicators are provided to teachers in Highlands County to support their decision in marking students ON grade level. If a student does not meet the minimum number of indicators in each of the areas, the teacher in conjunction with the school’s progress monitoring team will determine ON/OFF grade level status. Additionally, other indicators and performance on assessments may be considered by the group to make a final decision.
