Today in Mrs. Valles’s science class, our students became scientists and engineers by designing and testing their own paper airplane models! ✈️ They learned that scientists use models to test ideas, make observations, and see what works. Students tested their airplanes, observed the results, and thought about how changes to their designs could affect how they flew.

Our students had so much fun practicing their color recognition and sorting skills through hands-on learning! As they matched and grouped each color, they also strengthened their focus, problem-solving skills, and fine motor development. Our 5th graders put their teamwork skills to the test during a fun science challenge called “Saving Fred!”🔬✨

The School Board of Highlands County is excited to launch Highlands PLUS, a brand-new way for non-enrolled and non-traditional students in our community to access high-quality district courses. Students can take as little as one course or several. Courses can be taken in person or virtually through Highlands Virtual School (HVS)! Please note that course availability varies by school.

Stella has been busy learning and growing at Memorial Elementary, and this summer is the perfect time to keep those reading adventures going!
The Highlands County Libraries are hosting their 2026 Youth Summer Reading Program, "Reading is Rawr-some!" for children and teens ages 0–18. Families can register at any branch, set reading goals, earn prizes, receive free books, and be entered for grand prize drawings throughout the summer.
Even more exciting, each library branch is offering fun dinosaur-themed activities, crafts, sensory experiences, parties, and visits with therapy dogs all summer long!
